Post Baby Workouts

I want to share a recent email I received real quick…

“I had my first baby a month ago and I’m trying to get back in shape. Have lost 30 pounds since the birth of my baby, need to lose 10 more to hit my pre baby weight. Additionally, want to tighten my belly area that looks a bit flabby.”

Awesome email and I’m super excited to start working with this client to help her lose the baby weight completely, but here’s why I am sharing. There’s an important message behind this 🙂

Most of us want to get our bodies back asap after birth BUT it is extremely EXTREMELY important that you get your Dr’s OK BEFORE you begin a postnatal exercise program. You’ve just put your body through an amazing amount of work giving birth and it needs some recovery time. The way you deliver will also effect the length of recovery recommended.

If you had an uncomplicated delivery, you may start EASY exercise within the first 2-4 weeks. However, if you had any complications or ended up having a c-section it’s recommended you wait at least 6 weeks before starting back your exercise routine.

As much as you may want to jump right back in (as I’m sure I will) it is important to give your body the time it needs to heal. Be patient new mummies! You have PLENTY of time to get your body back 🙂
